Pet Conditions
Unfortunately, we will not be able to insure all pets. These are some conditions before we can provide cover for your furry friend:
(a) must be aged between twelve (12) weeks to ten (10) years at the start date of your insurance.
(b) be free from injury or physical disability at the start date of your insurance.
(c) be at all times under your care or your family. (Sadly, this means you can't insure stray cats or dogs that don't live with you)
(d) be duly licensed and not fall under banned or restricted breeds as prescribed by the Government or Public or Local Authority (for pet dogs). Here's a link to our FAQ.
(e) be microchipped (for pet dogs)
(f) where your pet is a cat, you must provide medical card certification from a registered veterinarian with details of the pet and its owner including their names and photographs of the pet.
(g) not be a working pet.
Pet Owners
With a cute pet, comes big responsibility. The Pet Owners need to satisfy the following criteria:
(a) be aged eighteen (18) years or older; and
(b) be the owner of the pet (Proof: legal name shown on vet medical card or receipt)
(c) the pet insurance is not transferable to other pets.
Residence and Country Limit
A pet is covered under this policy only while the pet is in Malaysia.
Your pet must reside permanently with you at the address within Malaysia stated in the schedule.
The History of The Munchkins
Cats with short legs have been documented in England as early as the 30s, but due to World War II, their population declined tremendously.
It was really in the early 80s when a Louisiana school teacher found 2 pregnant, short-legged cats hiding under her car. She rescued them both and kept Blackberry, the black cat, and gave Blueberry, the grey cat, away.
Nobody really knows what happened to Blueberry, but all of today’s registered Munchkins can be traced back to Blackberry!
Also, the breed name “Munchkin” came from the little people characters in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!
Personality and Temperament
Munchkins are friendly, intelligent, and curious cats. They do very well with other pets and children, which makes them excellent pets for people with large families.
Their stubby legs might hinder them from reaching high places, but that does not stop them from exploring the world. Sometimes, they will even perch on their hind legs like prairie dogs to get a better view!
Do not underestimate them because of their itty-bitty legs! Other than jumping onto the kitchen counter, they can do anything an ordinary cat can do. Remember I said they are intelligent? They will figure out another scenic route via a chair or a stool to get there. When there is a will, there is a way!
Do you know?
Munchkin cats also love to stash away shiny, little things to play with later. This trait makes them the magpies of the feline world. So, next time your jewellery goes missing, your Munchkin might be the one to blame. :)
How do I keep my Munchkins healthy?
Care
Caring for Munchkins is pretty easy. Depending on their fur coat, long or short-haired, you should brush them weekly, and occasional bathing is recommended to keep them clean. Not to mention, regular nail trimming and ear cleaning would also be essential to maintain their hygiene.
Since they are blessed with stubby legs, caregivers have to make sure their food dishes, litter boxes, and water bowls are low, so our short kings and queens can access their necessities without any issue!
Diseases
The Munchkin breed has an expected lifespan of 12-15 years. They are a generally healthy breed. However, just like any other cat, they are prone to certain health issues.
Osteoarthritis
This disease in cats usually happens in areas like the knees, ankles, hips, and elbows. Some Symptoms include lameness, changes in gait, inactivity, and reluctance to jump.
Just like in humans, osteoarthritis is more common in older cats, which is why it is encouraged to bring your little furry friends to the vet for checkups as often as possible.
Hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism, an endocrine disease, is also more common in senior cats. This condition is caused by increased production of thyroid hormones. Some distinct symptoms are increased thirst or appetite, aggressive behaviour, increased vocalisation, and an unkempt coat.
The only way to confirm this diagnosis would be blood testing by a veterinarian. The treatment will typically range from dietary changes and medications to radioactive iodine therapy and surgery.
Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)
This condition affects the cat’s urinary system and is usually caused by inflammation, diet, infection, or urinary obstruction. Symptoms of FLUTD include blood in the urine, urinating outside the litter box, crying while urinating, and excessive licking of the genital area.
Regardless of how severe the cases are, veterinary intervention is necessary to treat this disease.

Final thoughts
Being a responsible owner is not an easy task. While taking care of our little furbabies, we need to take care of ourselves too! Mental health, financial planning, and time management all contribute greatly to our own welfare and, indirectly, our pets’.
